Elevated Basics

The term ‘Elevated Basics’ refers to the basic building blocks of your wardrobe, the t-shirts, jeans, vest tops, blazers etc. These are the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe. The things you wear everyday.

They also tend to be the items we spend the least on, unlike the statement dress that we may wear once or twice for a special occasion. Whilst it’s totally okay to do that, we should ideally be doing the opposite and spending more on our everyday items. These items need to last, we wear them everyday. They’re worth investing in.

This is where the ‘Elevated’ part comes in. I have broken down this term into 5 simple things to consider when spending on those everyday items.

Quality - Is the item well made? Are the seams straight? Does it hang correctly?

Fabric - Is it natural? Will it wash well? Will it bobble or shed?

Shape - Does it sit the way you imagined? Is it timeless?

Fit - Is it the right length? Does it suit your shape? Does it fit correctly?

Details - What’s special about it? An asymmetrical hem? Intricate buttons? or Statement sleeve?
